as it is time to do the lower ribs, out comes the bending iron to finish off the bends which straightened out
doing a test clams tp see where I have to trim the ends off and how the surfaces are mating
the centre line shows where I have to trim the joint of the lower ribs
this helps in cutting the joint for the lower rib, I gave myself 4mm overhang to play with
now using a shooting board I trim the lower joint face with the block plane
you can see the line and I stoped to check just before hitting it
using making tape and an over hang of 2mm to help in closing the joint when it comes time to glue
the lower block is now glued on but it was a little difficult as it wanted to slide around when the clamps where tightend down, using the big clamp lightly fastened across the bouts helps in keeping at all in place for doing the side blocks
a final test run and adjustment of the cornet block joints before gluing
this side needed as little bit of extra push in one area so I used a strip of making tape folded up along one area of the clamping block
all the ribs are now glued and I can finally get an idea of the spahe, though upsidedown
after 2 weeks of hard work the ribs are finally on!
after the clamps and masking tape came off a little bit of wood lifted much to my horror
a little drop of glue fixed it up
a good look at the shape to come
the light shows off the figure in the wood which I reversed in the "c's"
the overhang in the "c's" still needs to be trimmed down
an effort I am pretty pleased with
on all the joints I got a good mating surface
