Setting the punch gauge for the first marking. As the ribs are over 3.25mm thick I will do this in 3 stages, 2.75mm, 2.1mm and 1.8mm
the marks from the sharpened nail are quite visable
with a toothed blade in the plane now comes teh long slow job of thinning the rib and constant checking for even thickness
this is how I mounted the rib whilst planing, being careful to keep the surface clean
feeler gauges and a micrometer work well for setting the punch clearance
the sharpened nail works really well in scribing the wood
one rib wow 1.7mm thick and only three left to go
all the ribs are now done and ready for cutting and bending. One thing I found hard was getting the scraper to cut cleanly over such a wide area.
The corner blocks are marked for carving the area where the ribs will be glued on
staring to carve the shape of the corner block. I was surprised how easy it to carve the spruce
the inner parts of right side corner blocks are roughly cut
