planing the inside surfaces flat so I have a reference for a right angle joint edge
a Veritas straight edge which is a great tool for this job
This half is going to need a lot of wood removed to level it out
checking the joint edge to see where the highs and lows are
putting the two hals together to check the joint face
starting to look pretty good
this gap is a little too much and the faces need a bit more work
The gap is getting smaller and should only need a little bit more work
getting ready to glue the two halves together. the spotlights work great for heating up the surfaces
I placed a thermometer on the joint to measure how hit the lights can warm up the wood
The perfect cheap glue pot. A wax pot hair removal.
under the lights the tempreture reached low 50 deg c
my improviesd container for the glue. this little setup cost about half what a correct glue pot would cost to import and is 240 volts
all glued up but it is not looking very good
since gluing the gap between the wood seems twice as big. I think my preperation was not good enough
the gap is not as bad here but still quite big
I am not happy with the joint and as far as I am concerned it is not acceptable. I am going to resplit the joint and start again. It actually split really quite easy one hour after it was done. proof that it was not good enough
