this side has really deep gouged holes from some sort of tool

here you can see 5 of those holes

after a bit of plane setup education I finally got it to make clean shavings

it is a pretty thin shaving

this is how I mount the wood so it can be planed

again this wood is a pretty rough cut so much worse than the other side

this is the good side which will be a lot less work without those gouge holes

there is quite a difference in height between the two halves

the worse gouge hole pretty much runs right though the height of the plate

with the gouge holes being at leat 6mm deep it is sure going to be a close shave
